Welcome to Part 2 of our honeymoon adventure. As I said before we started in Bozeman headed to Yellowstone and then ventured through Idaho to get into Wyoming & The Grand Tetons.
We had to venture through Idaho since many of the roads were closed due to snow (which in May is a bummer, but you must remember where we are at). On a positive note we both checked a new state off our bucket list “Idaho”. Land of potatoes and the brownest soil I have ever seen. Seeing the Tetons from the Idaho side was incredible.
Another thing I must note about Montana that I LOVED.. cows E V E R Y W H E R E.. hundreds & hundreds of cows in pasture fields. I was in heaven!!! The pass from Idaho into Jackson Hole, WY is no joke. That is by far one of the steepest roads I have ever been on, the desent down would have anyone burning their brakes just a little. I have no idea how they would even make it over in the winter.
We loved Bozeman & of course Yellowstone too, but WE fell head over heels for Jackson Hole & The Tetons! By Far one of our favorite places. We stayed at Spring Creek Ranch! Amazing place so if you ever get a chance to go there, Stay at Spring Creek Ranch. They have cabins & houses. We stayed in a cabin and had the most amazing view of the Tetons & Spring Gulch Rd. It’s definitely luxury cowboy living – in a cabin with a wood burning fireplace & the most incredible view (with sunsets in the evening)!! Did I mention the elk that roam all over.. just a bonus!
Looking back at our cabins across the way!
On our first night in the Tetons we arrived just before sunset & were able to catch it from our room setting over the The Teton range. When you’re on an adventure like this there is no time to sleep in especially when one of you is a photographer sunrise & sunset are the best times for photos.
We were up early to see a golden glow from the sun peering over Spring Gulch rd. some of the original homesteads lie here and the ranches, cattle & elk are beautiful here. It is picturesque. We headed over to Oxbow Bend great for wildlife viewing which it did not disappoint on the way there we saw coyotes feasting & an eagle watching near by.
After a lot of sightseeing & photo taking we headed into Wilson just outside of Jackson Hole for some grub. We ended up at Nora’s Fish Camp (featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners Drive- Ins & Dives) it did not disappoint at all Trout for breakfast! WIN! We headed over to the local store and picked up some postcards (such a fun tradition to send a few to our family).
We headed out for a hike and swung by the visitor’s center to get an update on the trails. Unfortunately, only a few were open.. the weather was perfect and very little snow on the lower elevations, but at the base of the mountains it was a different story and even some of the lakes were frozen. We were there in between seasons meaning the winter stuff (snowshoes, snowmobiles all had been put away), and the summer stuff (kayaks, bikes, horses hadn’t been opened up yet we were about a week too early.) The ranger said we wouldn’t be able to hike on any of the canyon trails at the base and in between the mountains just too much snow. So we opted for trails around the lakes, the ranger said we may encounter snow up to our knees & waist. I looked at Seth and said I just can’t believe that (you’re doubting a ranger who works here and is experienced). Yep, just you wait and see how that turned out .. Seth had a good laugh on my account!
One of our favorite trails!
I loved the food in Jackson – Elk & Bison YUM! My favorite! We had so much fun walking around the square and shopping.
My husband knows I need to take photos and we are in the place where the most photographed barn in the world is – Mormon Row (we hit that at sunrise & sunset trying to get the perfect shot) Sorry for the overload. Snake River with The Tetons reflecting in the river was another top photo spot!
I learned that we will be back to the Tetons there is still so much we want to do there & I love huckleberries especially in ice cream! We were sad to leave and thus adventured back up into Yellowstone the south entrance was open YAY! Of course you’ve seen those pictures already.
We made our way back into one of our favorite places in Montana -Ennis, MT (gorgeous). Headed towards Butte, passes through some old mining towns “Ghost Towns” as it were (Virginia City, Alder, and Twin Cities).
We will be back this December probably not in the same areas as we want to adventure in Whitefish & Glacier. If you need any photos done in December let me know!!
It was a sad day as we sat in the airport in Bozeman watching the sunrise come up over the Bridger Mountain Range. Montana stole a piece of my heart! – So go visit you won’t regret it!
